We're baaaaccckkkk....
Yep, that's right. We're done with excuses. We've got the lead out of our you-know-whats and we are ready to get things done.
You may remember when I last reported our progress that we were somewhere around here with our Den reno:
Not very far.
Nowhere really -- aside from demolition and priming.
But since then we've done some things.
We had a section of the ceiling along the back wall that was missing its popcorn texture from where we ripped out the old built-in shelves. We had that repaired but the process was so anti-climactic that I didn't take any pictures. You aren't missing much. There was once no popcorn. Now there is.
We also had this little problem to take care of:

Remember, that little surprise? When we demo-ed the old built-in we found that the hardwood floor was missing beneath it as well. Not planned. Not happy about it. But the show must go on and so must the floor.
So, we brougth in Pat Patterson and he got us all patched up.
The patchwork unfinished |
The patched area is not completely undetectable but certainly looks better and Mr. Patterson assures us that it will blend better with age. Overall, the entire floor looks so much better that it makes me wish a had a few (and by a few a mean a lot, holy cow!) thousand dollars lying around to do the rest of the house.
Once the floors were finished, we painted all of the moldings, trim, windows and doors.
Which left us here:
What to do about that big ugly beast??
Faced with that dilemma, I hit up Pinterest (thank you internet gods for thinking that up. Seriously, THANK YOU!) and found this photo for inspiration.
My wheels started turning. And I came up with an idea on how I could turn my big 70s monstrosity into a thing of beauty. Set with a plan, Travis and I got to work (and by that I mean Travis got to work while I mostly sat back and watched with a scrutinous eye).
Here's what's been happening with the fireplace transformation:
All of that makes me one happy girl.
Travis rocked it out.
Wonder boy, that one, I tell ya.
Over the next weekend it will get a paint job and a big chunky mantel like the inspiration photo. And next week grasscloth wallpaper goes up and new built-in desk gets installed. Woooo!!!
Yep, we are getting things D-O-N-E.
