Hello, my name is Suzanne and I'm a schizophrenic.

No, not really. Not that kind of schizo anyways.
(Is that even politically correct? Probably not. Oh, well.)

I'm a self-proclaimed decor schizophrenic.
Seriously, when it comes to interior design I have many personalities.

One minute I'm in love with this...

The next minute I'm all about this...

Then I find myself swooning over this...

and this...

and picking my jaw off the floor over this...

and this...

I'm truly all over the map.
I appreciate a well executed design regardless of its genre. Therefore, I've found it really hard to committ to any specific design direction for our Den.

But I think I'm finally ready.

First, I toyed with the idea of going with a mix of rich jewel tones and bold patterns.

And even as I share the photos that inspired me, I'm drooling. It's a really modern look and I love, love it but it just didn't feel right for our Den decor. We wanted to go a little more in the direction of warm and cozy.
(Perhaps I'll get to revisit these inspirations when we go to work on the formal living and dining rooms...Ooo fun!!)

Then, I played around with the idea of going light and airy.

But that wasn't right either.
It read a little too coastal for our taste and surroundings.

We love our new house and everything about the area of Providence.
The farming fields, the quiet country roads, the barbed wire fences, the livestock in the backyard.
While we aren't exactly Old MacDonald (Ee-i-Ee-i-O) -- we don't run the farm or feed the cows --  we do love our surroundings. So we thought it was only fitting that we embrace our country locale in our decor choices. A little more organic so to speak.

So this is what we've come up with.

Our L-shaped sectional sofa in a beige-taupe chenille weave

Sweep-arm chairs in a Slate cotton-weave

Gray trellis wool dhurrie rug

Rustic brickmakers coffee table
As you can see, the bones of the room are going to be neutral. The reason for this -- we figure neutrals will always be "in" while pistacio green could be in and out as quickly as harvest gold. Changing accessories down the road will be a lot easier and economical than changing out the furniture. Plus, I love a good neutral. There is something really warm and peaceful about a room done in varying shades of neutrals. While I love the feel of a warm palette, it is a little too vanilla for me. So the plan is to bring in pops of color through art, accessories, and mixed textiles.
For art, I'd like a healthy mix of styles and mediums. I love art and hope to one day have an impressive collection.

I'll mix colors and textures of pillows and accessories to create a happy mix between organic and modern.
(Ooo, I can't wait!!)

As for the layout, it's going to be pretty much like this...

I'll also include my kindegarten sketch just for the giggle factor.
(Go ahead, laugh. I'm not looking.)

When it's all said and done we hope to have a room that's comfy and inviting yet sophisticated.

So there ya have it.
That's the plan.
